Victoria Beckham once gifted Meghan Markle £6,000 worth of clothes from her brand, but the move failed to have any benefit for the fashion designer.
Victoria and David Beckham were friends with Meghan and Prince Harry,
with the former Spice Girls star giving the Duchess of Sussex outfits to wear for her Christmas Day appearance with the Royal Family.
She also gave Meghan a custom-designed outfit when she was pregnant.
However, royal author Tom Bower has said the gifts didn’t make great publicity for Victoria’s fashion brand.
In his new book House of Beckham, Bower wrote: “Victoria agreed to provide a coat, dress, boots
and a handbag worth £6,000 to Meghan for the Royal Family’s traditional Christmas Day parade in Sandringham.
“Later, Meghan wore a Beckham custom-made pregnancy outfit and a white coat and dress for a service in Westminster Abbey.” He continued: “The financial benefit was nil. The only success in 2019 was a £1,400 handbag that had been displayed by Meghan.”
Meghan and Harry’s relationship with the Beckhams worsened over the years, with Bower claiming Meghan became “irritated” when she found out Victoria is richer than she is. His new book claimed she was annoyed when she found out the Beckhams had “considerably more wealth” than herself.
Cracks started to show in the relationship between the famous families in 2018, according to Bower. While David and Victoria received an invite to Meghan and Harry’s wedding that year, they were not invited to the wedding dinner.
Bower claims things then went from bad to worse when Meghan and Harry were left odd the guest list for Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz’s wedding. However, Prince William and Princess Kate made the invite list.
In House of Beckham, Bower said Meghan had ranked herself above the Beckhams in the social pecking order. He said: “In Meghan’s celebrity world, ranking depended on wealth and fame. As a seasoned operator, Meghan deluded herself that her status in the Royal Family placed her above Victoria in the social pecking order.”
Even though Victoria Beckham generously gifted Meghan Markle £6,000 worth of clothes from her brand, it did not result in the desired outcome for the fashion designer. The former Spice Girls star provided the Duchess of Sussex with outfits for various occasions, including a custom-designed pregnancy outfit and a white coat and dress for a service in Westminster Abbey.
Despite Victoria’s efforts, royal author Tom Bower revealed in his book House of Beckham that the gifts did not bring significant publicity to Victoria’s fashion brand. He noted that the financial benefit was minimal, with only a £1,400 handbag being showcased by Meghan in 2019.
The relationship between Meghan and Harry and the Beckhams became strained over time, according to Bower. Meghan allegedly became “irritated” upon discovering that Victoria was wealthier than she was. This discovery reportedly led to cracks in their relationship, with the Beckhams being excluded from certain events.
In 2018, David and Victoria Beckham received an invitation to Meghan and Harry’s wedding but were not invited to the wedding dinner. The situation escalated when Meghan and Harry were omitted from the guest list for Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz’s wedding, while Prince William and Princess Kate were included.
According to Bower, Meghan viewed herself as superior to the Beckhams in the social hierarchy. In her world, status was determined by wealth and fame, and she believed her position in the Royal Family placed her above Victoria Beckham.
Despite the challenges in their relationship, both families continue to navigate their respective paths in the public eye.
